A new guide to Minerva Reefs - two unoccupied atolls claimed by Fiji and Tonga - is urging yachties to stay for a while at the ‘unspoiled piece of the South Pacific’ rather than fleeing in nervousness over weather and occasional military disputes.
Rich and Michelle Marshall of the American flagged yacht Pogeyan say they’ve made 11 extended visits to North and South Minerva and have posted a guide, Exploring Minerva Reefs, online. Its light on history and politics while providing an extensive guide to the environment of the atolls, 400 kilometres south west of Nuku’alofa, 650 km south south east of Suva and 1600 km north of Auckland.
