Palau, like the Cook Islands, has been caught helping Russia evade international sanctions while making money from secret energy exports to fund their war on Ukraine.
While the Cook Islands has decades of shameless behaviour in corrupt tax haven operations, Palau, population 18,000, dresses up as a green warrior of the Blue Pacific. It's all camouflage, even to the extent of selling its flag to spoof global position systems and signing off on dangerous, uninsured shipping.
In one disingenuous statement Palau President Surangel S. Whipps two months ago in Athens proclaimed: ‘Palau is proud to host a leading global registry for ships that comply with the highest environmental and safety standards’.
